School holidays in winter can be tough to fill with fun activities and so we have included our favourites for this winter. We have experienced them all and they are not only fun but also something a little different, and all perfect for the chilly weather!
We recently took a ride on the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel which was a huge hit for us and the kids. Soaring 120m above the city, the Star is the Southern Hemisphere’s only giant observation wheel.
They are offering a special kids experience these school holidays where kids can have a go at the Spy in the Sky Challenge. Kids are given special binoculars and listen out for clues to see who is the first to identify landmarks.
$ Savings: Kids fly free these school holidays!

Ice Skating at Eastland
Want to experience a winter adventure without heading to the snow? Eastland Shopping Centre brought back it's ice skating rink for the school holidays. I was a little apprehensive and stuck to the sides until I saw Dahlia being far more brave than me and decided to stop being so scared and have a go. Isn't it amazing how much our kids teach us! It was so much fun! Sarita was a pro and so the lucky kids were whizzed around by her in their kangaroos.
We love that all proceeds from sales of the rink are donated to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
$ Saving: Dine or shop at Town Square in Eastland and skate for free.

Cooking Class at Casa Di Tutti
Are your kids budding chefs, interested in cooking, or love food like ours do? If so, this is the school holiday activity for you. Dominique from Casa Di Tutti teaches the kids how to make authentic Italian cuisine in his restaurant. They are small classes with a maximum of 8 kids, and so the experience is hands on and individual. The kids start by donning a chef's apron and are then guided through each step, all in a commercial kitchen. Our kids learnt to make pizzas and pizza dough. They rolled out two lots of dough and filled the bases with their choice of toppings and cooked them in the wood fired pizza oven. The kids enjoyed one of these pizzas in the restaurant, took one home and also took home two more containers of pizza dough.
$ Saving: lunch and dinner both sorted ... exceptional value!

Family Painting Session at Cork and Chroma
I can't remember the last time I picked up a paint brush and had a go at painting. This experience was so enjoyable for the kids and us mums. We were guided by the amazing artist Eddy who showed us each step. I must admit I was laughing at my work after several steps but was amazed at how it seems to come together in the end. It was so fun to escape the world for a couple of hours, let our creativity take over and lose ourselves in paint!

Creativity for Kids
Sometimes there is nothing better than having a day at home in your PJ's all day, especially in this icy weather. These days are best filled with arts and crafts and Creativity for Kids has come up with so many DIY options for the kids they will love and keep them entertained for hours! From slime making kits which is always a favourite, to making hair bows (just like Jo Jo!), terrariums, emoji bracelets, light up lamps that actually work and so much more.
It has to be the obsession of 2018 and it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon- yes that’s right, the gooey, messy ‘thing’ that is slime! Shamrock have slime kits which take the pain out of buying all the ingredients (no more borax 👏) and their kits are fool proof and make the best, stretchiest of slime. So fun!
Craft available at Officeworks, and slime available at Spotlight.
Hotel Transylvania 3
The movies are always a good option, especially when the weather is bad. My poor kids haven't been to the movies since Harvey was born so I decided to brave it and take Harvey and my mum (as a back up in case he cried!) and treated the kids and their friends. Harvey was fantastic luckily and the movie theatre we went to were very accomodating, letting me park the pram near the candy bar in case of a quick exit!
We chose Sony Pictures Hotel Transylvania 3 which is a story of a summer vacation especially for monsters! It has a little mystery, a lot of fun, and some great tunes that had us bopping in our seats. The third in the sequence of this monster-filled, scary (not-scary) tale, this movie is perfect for kids of all ages.
