Playroom Designs

I have been wanting to transform one of our rooms into a playroom and have been looking for inspiration. It seems the amount of beautiful playrooms on Instagram and Pinterest is endless! I believe a good playroom looks fun and is inviting for children, however functionality is also really important, and storage is key! I find that even when our little ones get older and don’t play with toys as much, there are still many arts and crafts, games and more. I also think zones are important in making the most of the space. Depending on the age of your children, different zones can include a reading nook (think beautiful canopy with lots of cushions), a kitchen or tools area, a space for arts and crafts, and dedicated areas for toys.

For anyone else looking for playroom inspiration, we have included a few of our favourite playroom designs below.

Dahlia's Room

I recently worked with Bel from Petite Interiors on Harvey's nursery and she did the most incredible job so I was so excited to work with her for Dahia's room. Bel's instagram feed is filled with the most pretty rooms and so I couldn't wait to see what she came up with for my daughter. The only items I told her we needed were a big bed (as there is a fair amount of bed hopping that goes on in our household!) and a desk that could also work as a vanity, the rest was up to her.

When she sent me the mood board, I think I squealed with delight! It was just perfect, a mix of functional as well as oh, so pretty!!! The first step for me was painting the room. We have recently moved house and the wall colour was cream which wouldn't have worked. Ordinarily I would always choose white paint as I am pretty conservative and I think white would go with everything and not date. However Bel encouraged me to consider grey and after Sarita also said she would choose grey, 'Grey Impressions' from Haymes it was. In hindsight I am so thankful we chose grey as I think the white would have been too stark and the grey has provided a softer look.

The next step was wallpaper installation. Bel worked with Kristy from Minnie & Me Interiors and chose one of their new styles which I absolutely love, it is girly, but not too young. Bel chose the background colour Lilac which works perfectly and it was lucky she chose as there were too many beautiful colours for me to choose from!

The items started arriving and we started putting the room together. When Bel told me Adairs was on board I was so excited as I am a massive fan and loyal customer. Adairs supplied the beautiful soft pink velvet bed, the gorgeous vanity and bedside tables with chevron detail and a touch of gold, the gorgeous dusty pink ottoman and stunning linen.

I have lost count how many times Dahlia has told people she is having a couch in her room! The settee is something I have had my eyes on for a while and is such a show-stopping piece. It is from Incy Interiors, is pink velvet with rose gold legs and makes the perfect hang out for Dahlia and her friends. The rug is absolutely amazing and certainly provides the 'wow' factor, the artwork is just gorgeous, the lamps are beautiful and the dreamcatcher is so pretty but also takes away those nasty nightmares!!! The shelf has beautiful details including suede straps and gold pins and provides a space for Dahlia's precious trinkets. The room has far exceeded my expectations, it is not only an absolutely beautiful space but it is zoned and has all the elements for a perfect girl's bedroom.

Dahlia is one lucky girl!
